Branch History

Bridgeton Trails opened October 30, 1978 as the 13th Branch of the St. Louis County Library District. It was constructed with funds from a 10-year, 5-cents per $100 valuation tax that voters approved in 1973 for expanding County Library.

"Bridgeton Trails" reflects the Branch's location in the City of Bridgeton, near the intersection of I-70 and I-270 and the junction of the historic Natural Bridge and St. Charles Rock roads.

It was designed by P. John Hoener Associates for $960,000 (this included the site, building, landscaping, furniture and equipment). The 3.5 acre site adjoins the DePaul Hospital Complex.

The one-level, 17,000-square-foot Branch has a stone entrance and canopy. The original copper roof was replaced in 1994. The parking lot accommodates 119 cars. The read room seats 110 people, the auditorium seats 100 and the meeting room seats 30. The building houses 90,000 volumes.
