The St. Louis area has a rich Catholic history, stemming back to its French heritage in the 1700s. The Archdiocese of St. Louis includes all or part of the following areas of Missouri:
 
  1. Franklin County
  2. Jefferson County
  3. Lincoln County
  4. Perry County
  5. St. Charles County
  6. St. Francois County

 

  1. St. Louis City (an independent city after 1876)
  2. St. Louis County
  3. Ste. Genevieve County
  4. Warren County
  5. Washington County 

 

There have been (past and present) approximately 300 Catholic parishes or mission churches in the Archdiocese and the oldest microfilmed parish records are from the 1760s.
 

 

Diocese of Belleville [Illinois]

On the eastern side of the Mississippi River is the diocese of Belleville which includes 28 counties in southern Illinois.
