This reference chart was produced by Special Collections staff to bring together information regarding the organization and redesignations of U.S. Colored Troops (USCT) regiments. This is important to researchers working with USCT records in much the same way that the knowledge of a woman's maiden and previously held married names is important when researching her life. Records or family tradition may record a soldier's service—but if his regiment is listed by a prior name rather than the final name, then further research may be stymied. More . . .
