The following is a name index to slave compensation claims found in microfilmed Compiled Service Records of U.S. Colored Troops (USCT) that are available in the Special Collections Department and were purchased by the Julius K. Hunter and Friends African American Research Collection.

This index is alphabetical by the soldier's surname, then by given name. An alphabetical list by the slave owner's name is also available. See the Civil War Slave Compensation Claims Introduction page for a list of all USCT Compiled Service Record microfilm sets in the JKH & Friends Collection.

Each entry includes the National Archives (NARA) microfilm publication number, roll number, and beginning frame number. To find the claim, locate the microfilm set, the specified roll, and then advance to the designated "beginning frame" which will be the first document of that soldier's compiled service record. To then find the slave compensation claim, read through to the end of his service record as that is where such claims consistently appear. The frame number is the number which appears between the upper edge of the film and the top of each document.
