First founded as the "German Evangelical Congregation of Des
Peres" in 1838, the pastor serving this community came from Holy
Ghost Church in St. Louis City. In 1846–1847 the congregations
split. (For early records, see Zion Evangelical and Reformed
Church, Evangelical Church Finding Aid.) Offshoots of this
congregation were formed in 1874, with Concordia Lutheran in
Kirkwood , and in 1875, with St. John's in Ellisville.
