Proof of Declaration of Intention

Copy of Harry Steinberg's declaration of intention filed at Springfield, Hampden County, Massachusetts on 18 April 1903.

When Harry Steinberg filed his final papers to become a U.S. citizen in St. Louis, Mo. in 1908, he had to submit proof that he had previously filed his declaration of intention, a required step in the naturalization process. Harry had lived in Massachusetts when he made his declaration of intention in 1903, so he filed a copy of that Massachusetts document as his proof.

There is only ONE roll of microfilm containing such proofs of declaration filed in the Circuit Court in St.  Louis, Mo. That is roll 79 of the St. Louis naturalization records set here in the Special Collections Department or film 1750306 from the Family History Library. • Arrived in U.S. at the port of New York on the 10th of July, but the clerk failed to list the year.
