| In November 2001, the National
Genealogical Society (NGS) moved most of their 98 year old circulating
collection from the NGS headquarters at Glebe House in Arlington,
Virginia, to the Special Collections Department of St. Louis County
Library (SLCL) in St. Louis, Missouri. The collection consists of
approximately 20,000+ books. Previously loaned only to NGS members, the
National Genealogical Society Book Loan Collection is now available to
the general public through Interlibrary Loan via their local library.

Instructions to Patrons
To borrow a book not available at your local library, contact the
Interlibrary Loan Department of your library. Please limit your requests
to two books at a time.
The St. Louis County Library catalog
is available at http://199.181.178.210
- Books that have call numbers
starting with "R" (R929.3) are reference and do not circulate. These
books are not part of the NGS collection.
- Books that have call numbers that
start without "R" (i.e. 929.3 or Q 929.3) do circulate.
Instructions to Librarians
- Interlibrary Loan
- ILL requests may be submitted to
SLCL via one of the following:
- OCLC -- Our symbol is ZAE.
- ALA forms using regular mail
- Email to
scollections@slcl.org
Include your library’s mailing address, phone number and contact
person.
- Priority Cataloging
Priority status is assigned when an uncataloged NGS title is
requested. The item will be processed immediately the first of each
day. These books will usually be ready for circulation in two to
three days so the delay is minimal for the requesting patron.
We will send more than two books
to a library but ask that you adhere to the limit of two books per
patron. Please contact us via email
scollections@slcl.org
with questions or problems.
SLCL will also make up to 30
copies from an item, and that service may be preferable for some
patrons.
