City Directory Holdings |
City directories were listings of individuals and businesses, arranged in alphabetical
order. They were compiled yearly and can be an excellent source for tracking the movement
of people. City directories might list various civic organizations, governmental agencies,
social and educational institutions,
churches, schools and cemeteries.
Keep in mind the following:
- Years not
listed are not available.
- Occasionally, a
directory will include listings for
adjacent towns or areas.
- Most of the
directories listed on this page are
in microfilm or microfiche format, and photocopies may be made from them.
- Some of the
directories for St. Louis are in
book format. St. Louis City and
St. Louis County directories in book
format may not be photocopied
due to their fragile condition. Digital
cameras may be used to photograph
pages from directories.
- Directories
dated 1861 and earlier are in
microfiche format and are listed in red.
