Census Verification Project
for St. Louis City & St. Louis County, Missouri Federal Census

Census Verification Project
In January 2000, the Special Collections Department, with the
help of St. Louis Genealogical Society Library Volunteers, began
a project to make the 1880, 1900, 1910, and 1920 federal census microfilms for St. Louis City and County more
user-friendly. The volunteers check each page of the microfilm rolls containing St. Louis federal census. To assure
accuracy, two people check each roll, independent of each other. The results
are compared and
any discrepancies are resolved by a third person.
The volunteers verify:
-
which Enumeration Districts (E.D.s) are on each roll of film,
-
the order in which the (E.D.s) appear on each
film,
-
the volume numbers on each film.
This project will be on-going until the St. Louis census
films for 1880, 1900, 1910 and 1920 have been checked. As a census year is
finished, the results will be posted on this web site and the table below will
contain links to that year's roll-by-roll results and a review of findings.

It is the hope of St. Louis County Library and
the St. Louis Genealogical Society Library Volunteers that carrying out this
project and sharing the results will help researchers successfully use the St. Louis
City or St. Louis County federal census films.
