Maps for World War I Draft Board Boundaries Kansas City, Missouri
The two maps below are finding aids for Record Group 163, Records of the Selective Service System (World War I) at National Archives, Southeast Region, Atlanta, Georgia.

Choosing the Draft Board(s) to Search:
Consider using the following search strategy to determine which Kansas City, Missouri draft board to search for an ancestor's draft registration card:

  1. Locate a man's 1917-1918 street address by using a Kansas City, Missouri city directory or family records. It is also possible to use his address from the 1910 or 1920 federal census and hope that he lived at the same address at the time of his registration, or, if he moved, that he stayed in the same neighborhood.
  2. Locate that address on a more detailed Kansas City, Missouri map. Either a fold-out map or a spiral book-type map with a directory showing each street's location by map grid is especially helpful, even if it is a current map.
  3. Click on each of the two maps below to see larger versions of the boundary maps so you can compare the location of the address on the more detailed map to its probable location on either of these maps. Notice that through map #1 there are links to pages containing enlarged views of each individual draft board.
  4. If you cannot determine a specific draft board after viewing both maps, then list which draft boards are in the approximate area of your address and prioritize them in the order of most likely to least likely.
  5. View the films containing the selected draft boards.
