We will discuss "Private Life" by Jane Smiley. This historical novel takes place in the Midwest and the West from 1883 to 1942. Margaret Mayfield is considered an old maid. Then at age 27 she marries Captain Andrew Early, a naval officer and astronomer, and settles into a stifling marriage. Refreshments served. Registration requested.
