Library's Assistant Director Selected for FOCUS Leadership Class

St. Louis County Library is pleased to announce that Assistant Director of Administration Kristen Sorth has been selected as a member of FOCUS St. Louis' 38th Leadership Class. Ms. Sorth is one of only 66 professionals chosen this year to participate in the prestigious group, which will work on an 18-month project benefiting the St. Louis region.
 
A native of Jefferson City, Missouri, Kristen Sorth has a Master's degree in Public Administration from the University of Missouri--Columbia. She was hired by the Library District as the Manager of Human Resources on June 22, 1998. Her title changed to Senior Manager, Human Resources on February 1, 2007. Ms. Sorth was named Assistant Director of Administration on June 1, 2012.
 
During her tenure managing the human resources functions of the Library District, many successful programs have been introduced including an Employee Assistance Program, a Leave Share program, employee Rewards and Recognition, Employee of the Year, grievance procedures and a yearly staff in-service day. Ms. Sorth oversaw the implementation of many modernizations to the District including a self-service benefits administrator, a new performance evaluation process, adjustments to pay grades, expansion of benefits for employees, adoption of a Records Retention Policy, and increased staff training and development opportunities.
 
She is currently working on Phase 1 of the Library District's Master Facilities Improvement project which will renovate or replace several of the District's 20 library branches.
 
Leadership St. Louis is a highly respected program for emerging and established leaders who have demonstrated a deep commitment to improving the St. Louis region. The 18-day, 9-month curriculum explores such issues as economic development, education, poverty and social services, racism, arts and culture, and the criminal justice system. Participants visit key sites in the bi-state region, engage in face-to-face dialogue with regional decision makers and gain a deeper understanding of leadership approaches that produce results.
 
Ms. Sorth recently graduated from the Class 59 Coro Women in Leadership program. She is a member of the International Public Management Association and the Society for Human Resource Management.
