On January 24th, you may notice some changes to our OverDrive website (overdrive.slcl.org). OverDrive is rolling out The Next Generation Digital Platform. What does this mean for you?
For starters, the site itself will look a little different. All the same functionality will be available, it will just be found in a slightly different location. If you are an Internet Explorer user, you may be prompted to install a Chrome plug-in for optimal viewing. Attached is a screenshot of the new site to give you an idea of what to expect.
Also, OverDrive is implementing a One-Step Checkout. Just a quick click on the 'Borrow' button and the book is checked out to you. Make sure to set your default lending periods before checking out any new titles.
Along with these changes, OverDrive is rolling out a new format: OverDrive Read. This format will let users read eBooks in most modern web browser, online and offline, without downloading the book or installing software. OverDrive Read won't change the way the existing service works; it just gives you another option. To read offline in your browser, just open the title and then add it to your favorites or bookmark it in your browser. (Note: Kindle Fire requires a third-party browser; Chrome plug-in doesn't support offline reading; most basic eReaders do not have complex enough browsers.)
If you want the eBook in a different format, just return to your Bookshelf on the Overdrive eMedia site and choose another format.
