SLCL and Shoeman Water Projects Team Up for Clean Water

Date:
Wed, 01/16/2013 (All day)

The St. Louis County Library and Shoeman Water Projects, a local non-profit that helps provide clean water to developing countries, are teaming up on a new partnership. Starting January 21 through February 20, all 20 St. Louis County Library branches will be accepting gently used shoes.  The collected shoes will be exported to places like Kenya, Haiti and South America. Funds from the resale will help Shoeman Water Projects purchase well-drilling rigs and water purification systems.

When you visit any SLCL location, bring a pair or more of gently used shoes. Shoes should be in good condition, tied, rubber-banded, or bagged together.

Shoeman Water Projects has collected over 3 million shoes since 2008.  This equates to four well-drilling rigs, more than 250 wells drilled serving more than 200,000 people, as well as the installation of water purification systems and repairs to well pumps that serve clinics, schools and villages across the globe.
