SLCL Donates Handmade Blankets to Local Charities

Wed, 02/13/2013 (All day)

St. Louis County Library will donate hundreds of handmade blankets, hats and gloves to local charities as part of the Warm Up America program at a ceremony on Wednesday, February 20 at 1:30 p.m. The event will take place at Library Headquarters, located at 1640 S. Lindbergh Blvd.

This is SLCL's fifth year participating in Warm Up America. Customers and staff of the library have produced hundreds of handmade items for this project, both at home and during needlecraft programs. The blankets, hats and gloves are donated to local charity organizations, which distributes them to their clients in need. This year's recipients include Crisis Nursery, Helping Hand Me Downs, Nurse-Family Partnership, Pathways Community Hospice, Fisher House and Peter & Paul Community Services. Representatives of the recipient agencies will attend the ceremony on February 20.

Warm Up America is observed nationally by knitters and crafters as a way to help less fortunate Americans stay warm during the winter. In 2012, the library donated 764 afghans and handmade items to the program.
