SLCL Foundation Presents Acclaimed Suspense Writer Ace Atkins

Date:
Wed, 04/23/2014 (All day)
The St. Louis County Library Foundation is pleased to present acclaimed detective fiction author Ace Atkins for a discussion and signing of his thriller "Robert B. Parker's Cheap Shot." The event will be held on Wednesday, May 7 at 7:00 p.m. at Library Headquarters, 1640 S. Lindbergh Blvd.

The program is free and open to the public. Books will be available for purchase at the event from Barnes & Noble.

Praised by Michael Connelly as one of "the best crime writers at work today," Ace Atkins was selected by the estate of Robert B. Parker to continue the popular detective series starring the iconic, tough-but-tender PI Spenser.

In Atkins' third installment in the series, Spenser puts together an all-star team of toughs to rescue the kidnapped son of a celebrity football player.

Kinjo Heywood is one of the New England Patriots' marquee players--a hard-nosed linebacker who's earned his reputation as one of the toughest guys in the league. When off-field violence repeatedly lands Heywood in the news, his slick agent hires Spenser to find the men who he says have been harassing his client.

Heywood's troubles seem to be tied to a nightclub shooting from two years earlier. But when Heywood's nine-year-old son, Akira, is kidnapped, ransom demands are given, and a winding trail through Boston's underworld begins,  it will take both Hawk and Spenser's protégé, Zebulon Sixkill, to watch Spenser's back and return the child to the football star's sprawling Chestnut Hill mansion. A controversial decision from Heywood only ups the ante as the clock winds down on Akira's future.

Ace Atkins is the author of eleven previous books, including two Quinn Colson novels, "The Ranger"--nominated for the 2012 Edgar Award for Best Novel--and "The Lost Ones." His first installment in the Spenser, "Robert B. Parker's Lullaby," series was a New York Times bestseller.

Program sites are accessible. Upon two weeks notice, accommodations will be made for persons with disabilities. Contact St. Louis County Library by phone 314-994-3300 or visit www.slcl.org.
