The St. Louis County Library Foundation is pleased to present acclaimed western-suspense author Craig Johnson for a discussion and signing of his latest novel "As the Crow Flies" on Wednesday, May 23, at 7:00 p.m. at Library Headquarters, 1640 S. Lindbergh Blvd.
The program is free and open to the public. Books will be available for purchase at the event from Barnes & Noble.
In "As the Crow Flies," the eighth book in Craig Johnson's unique genre-bending western-suspense series starring Wyoming sheriff Walt Longmire, Walt is forced, on the eve of his daughter's wedding, to lead a darkly complex investigation into the death of Audrey Last Bull, an Iraqi war veteran, on the Cheyenne Reservation.
Balancing the responsibilities of his daughter's imminent wedding and the chance witnessing of a homicide, Sheriff Walt Longmire finds himself in the unlikely role of tutor to the new tribal police chief of the Northern Cheyenne Reservation.
While scouting alternative locations for Cady's wedding, Walt and lifelong friend, Henry Standing Bear, watch in horror as a young Crow woman falls to her death from Painted Warrior, a landmark of the Northern Cheyenne. To complicate matters, Lolo Long, another Iraqi war-veteran and newly appointed tribal police chief, arrests Walt and presses him into service in an attempt to discover how Audrey Last Bull was killed. The topography is strange on the Cheyenne Reservation and the suspects numerous, leading the sheriff into a complex and dangerous investigation as mentor in a strange and sovereign land.
Craig Johnson lives in Ucross, Wyoming, population 25. He is a recipient of the Wyoming Governor's Fellowship Award for Literature and is an Honorable Colonel of the Commonwealth of Kentucky. His Walt Longmire mystery series has been adapted for television in a joint venture between A&E and Warner Horizon and will begin airing the summer of 2012. "Longmire" is directed by Chris Chulack ("Southland," "ER") and stars Robert Taylor ("Matrix," "Vertical Limit") as Sheriff Walt Longmire, Lou Diamond Phillips ("La Bamba," "Young Guns") as Henry Standing Bear and Katee Sackhoff ("Battlestar Galactica," "24") as Vic Moretti.
Program sites are accessible. Upon two weeks notice, accommodations will be made for persons with disabilities. Contact St. Louis County Library by phone 314-994-3300 or visit www.slcl.org.
