St. Louis County Library Joins National Children's Book Week Celebrations

Established in 1919 and sponsored by the Children's Book Council, Children's Book Week is the longest-running literacy initiative in the country. Each year, the joy of reading is feted for a full week with author and illustrator appearances, parties, and other book-related events at schools, libraries, bookstores, and homes from coast to coast!
 
The St. Louis County Library is honored to participate in the 2012 Children's Book Week with the following author events:
 
Friday, May 4, 7:00 p.m. - Heather Brewer, Antony John, and Cole Gibsen
Library Headquarters - 1640 S. Lindbergh Blvd.
Join St. Louis' most popular young adult authors for a discussion of current projects and career inspiration. Heather Brewer is the author of the bestselling Chronicles of Vladimir Tod series. Author of the hit "Five Flavors of Dumb," Antony John's newest novel is "Thou Shalt Not Road Trip." Cole Gibsen is the author of the debut samurai warrior novel "Katana." Co-sponsored by Pudd'nHead Books.
 
Tuesday, May 8, 7:00 p.m. - Sara Pennypacker, "Summer of the Gypsy Moths"
Library Headquarters - 1640 S. Lindbergh Blvd.
Popular author of the "Clementine" chapter book series, Sara Pennypacker presents a new novel for young readers. In "Summer of the Gypsy Moths," two 12-year-old girls living on Cape Cod must hide the fact that their foster mother has died. As they struggle to survive on their own, they begin to realize their dream of belonging to a real family. Co-sponsored by Left Bank Books and the Foster and Adoptive Care Coalition.
 
Wednesday, May 9, 7:00 p.m. - Ridley Pearson, "Kingdom Keepers V: Shell Game"

St. Louis adventure writer Ridley Pearson presents the fifth installment in his bestselling Kingdom Keepers series. In "Shell Game," the teen protectors of Disney World must board a Disney cruise ship to stop the latest nefarious plot by the Overtakers. Co-sponsored by Left Bank Books.
 
Saturday, May 12, 2:00 p.m. - Julia Durango, "Under the Mambo Moon"
Daniel Boone Branch, 300 Clarkson Road
Author of the delightful picture book "Cha-Cha Chimps," Julia Durango's new book celebrates the musical heritage of Latin America. On summer nights, Marisol helps out in her father's music store. In a dazzling array of poetry, each customer tells of a favorite form of music--from salsa to tango to the cha-cha-cha. Co-sponsored by Pudd'nHead Books.
