The Thornhill Branch of St. Louis County Library will feature a celebration of Diwali on Saturday, November 9 from 1:00-3:00 p.m. Diwali is celebrated by Hindus each year and is known as "the festival of lights." The program is free and open to the public. The Thornhill Branch is located in west St. Louis County at 12863 Willowyck Dr., St. Louis, MO 63146.
The Diwali celebration will include the following presentations:
Learn about Diwali during this special Hindi Story Time presentation.
Diwali Festival-sample delicious refreshments catered by Mayuri Indian Restaurant, Haveli Indian Restaurant and Priya Indian Cuisine or the entries from our sweets competition. Try a Henna tattoo. There will be fun crafts for the kids too.
Closing Ceremony-featuring a showcase of Indian dances and music from talented performers. There will also be an award ceremony for the Diwali Sweets Cook-off.
Diwali celebrates the victory of good over evil, light over darkness and knowledge over ignorance, although the legends that go with the festival differ throughout India. Fireworks and lighted lamps characterize the celebration, which also marks a New Year.
