Specialized Items
Specialized items can be checked out for three months to St. Louis County residents. Please complete an application to be added to the waitlist to receive one of our specialized accessibility items. Applicants will be notified when the item becomes available.
OrCam MyEye 3 Pro
A wearable visual impairment solution that helps you read text, recognize faces, identify products, and more. The device attaches to glasses and comes with a stand for stationary use, as well as a small Bluetooth speaker.
HumanWare Explore 12
Electronic portable HD video magnifier: This 12-inch touchscreen tablet includes a foldable stand for stationary use.
LyriQ Assistive Reader
An automatic text-to-speech reader that scans printed documents and reads them out loud.
Visual Accessibility Kits
The Visual Accessibility Kit for low vision individuals will be available for a regular 21-day checkout to anyone with an SLCL card (no eligibility requirements).
The Visual Accessibility Kit includes:
Ruby XL HD
A portable, handheld video magnifier with a 5-megapixel, auto-focus camera providing sharp HD quality images that are easily viewed on its full color, 5-inch LCD screen.
Elumentis LED Lamp
An adjustable LED Lamp allowing users to select the optimal light color temperature and brightness level they need to maximize their viewing environment.
In-Library Use Tools
Borrow an Optelec PowerMag, 3.5, high quality magnifying glass, for in-library use when visiting any branch. Simply bring your library card to the circulation desk and ask a staff person for assistance.
St. Louis Society for the Blind and Visually Impaired (SLSBVI)
The Society enhances independence, empowers individuals, and enriches the lives of people who are visually impaired or blind.
Missouri Assistive Technology (MoAT)
As Missouri’s federally funded 21st Century Assistive Technology Act Program, MoAT strives to enhance the lives of all Missourians with disabilities, older Missourians, families and service professionals. Their work increases access to and acquisition of assistive technology (AT) devices and services. At home, work, school or play, assistive technology provides choice, control, and independence.
