Borrow a Telescope
Any SLCL adult cardholder can check-out telescopes for a 14-day period. Patrons can place a request for a telescope at the circulation desk or by calling 314-994-3300. The Borrow a Telescope program is made possible by donations from the Astronomical Society and the St. Louis County Library Foundation.
Two telescopes donated by the St. Louis Astronomical Society are available for use by area educators. The scopes can be reserved with a special attachment, called a Galileoscope, which fits over the end of the telescope and permits safe viewing of the sun during daylight hours. The scopes are available at the Natural Bridge and Lewis & Clark branches, and can be booked by educators for a 5-day period. To reserve a telescope and Galileoscope attachment, please call 314-994-3300 ext. 2030.
Sunspotter Telescopes for Educators
Educators can now check out solar telescopes from SLCL for a 5-day period. The library has obtained four Sunspotter telescopes available for use by K-12 educators. The Sunspotters project an image of the Sun onto a white screen, which several people can see simultaneously. The telescopes are available at four SLCL branches: Natural Bridge, Prairie Commons, Rock Road and Weber Road. Educators can book a telescope by calling 314-994-3300 ext 2030. The telescopes were donated to the library by the St. Louis Astronomical Society.
