St. Louis County Library will open a new children’s garden at the Thornhill Branch on Thursday, May 23. The event will begin at 10:30 a.m. with an outdoor story time, followed by a ribbon-cutting at 11:00 a.m.
The Thornhill Branch is located at 12863 Willowyck Dr. in Creve Coeur, MO.
The new outdoor children’s area at the Thornhill Branch is approximately 2,500 square feet in size. Families can access the enclosed space directly from the children’s area of the library. The outdoor area includes interactive features that kids will enjoy including art easels, oversized musical instruments (drums and xylophones), and a flower shaped play structure. There are also moveable stools for story time, benches for parents, and a shade structure. The space features a variety of surfaces such as concrete, playground surfacing and synthetic turf. The space was funded by the St. Louis County Library Foundation.
The Thornhill Children’s Garden is one of several outdoor spaces for kids in the County Library District. The Prairie Commons Branch has an outdoor area with an oversized checkerboard, tic tac-toe-stones and two playground diggers, along with a raised bed butterfly garden. A children’s garden will be installed later this year at the Grant’s View Branch. Interior spaces for kids have been revamped as part of the Your Library Renewed campaign, including the addition of Discovery Zones at Florissant Valley, Daniel Boone and Meramec Valley.
The Thornhill Branch reopened to the public in February 2019 as part of the Your Library Renewed campaign. The new building is approximately 20,000 square feet in size and features a colorful interior, with abundant natural light and updated amenities.
