When the Florissant Valley and Daniel Boone branches reopen later this year, their lower levels will be converted entirely to spaces for children, including new Discovery Zones. The Discovery Zones will make the branches true “destination locations” with engaging, interactive, educational, fun features as well as traditional library resources and programs.
Kids will love the pneumatic tube maze that blows lightweight scarves and balls through a series of tubes. Children can experiment with the air flow by turning dials that enable or disable the tubes. Another favorite will be the Everbright interactive light wall. It is like a Lite Brite, but larger.
Additional features of the Discovery Zones include several kinds of moveable or stationary reading nooks, large format touch screens, and a magnetic wall with gears and shapes. Learning stations within the Discovery Zones help children develop fine motor skills, experiment with basic scientific principles, work and cooperate with others.
Your library visits will never be the same, so stay tuned for the exciting re-opening of the Florissant Valley Branch (later this summer) and the Daniel Boone Branch (early fall 2017). Continue to check www.slcl.org/-your-library-renewed for updates!
