Tips for Searching New Releases

We love to browse the new releases, too! Here are some tips for finding them in the new catalog.

DVDs
  1. In the search bar, type DVD
  2. In the Refine Results Sidebar, select DVD under Format
  3. Select Apply
  4. At the top of the search results, on the right hand side, in the Sorted by drop down menu, select Date: Newest
BOOKS
  1. In the search bar, type * (this star can be typed by using "shift+8" on most keyboards. It tells the computer to search for everything)
  2. In the Refine Results Sidebar, select the following options:
    • Date → 2022-2023
    • Format → Book
      • This will also work with Music, Video Games, etc.
  3. Select Apply
  4. At the top of the search results, in the Sorted by drop down menu, select Date: Newest

At the moment, the catalog does not allow filtering by age or collection, so when you do a book search, you will get both Adult and Children's titles. However, if you’re looking for New Materials, using the Concept feature on the sidebar can help you narrow things down. On Order items do NOT show up when using Concepts.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why are you upgrading?

We will take a giant LEAP in technology moving to Polaris software!  Library users will be able to save their reading history, set preferences for choice of receipts and notifications, choose text for communication, automatic renewals, one-click holds, creating reading lists, and more!

What is the catalog merger with the City all about?

We want to increase access and make things easier! We’re sharing our catalog with St. Louis Public Library so that our customers can reserve City materials and have them sent to any of our 20 locations. This expands your access to millions of additional items.

Can I get a library card from St. Louis Public Library if I have a St. Louis County Library card?

Visit SLPL’s site to learn more about getting a City card.

What is a Barcode and Passcode?

When accessing the catalog and your account, use your library card number on the back of your card in the barcode field and use your PIN in the Passcode field.

Why is my PIN number not working?

All customer PIN numbers in our previous system were encrypted for security reasons and migrating PIN numbers to the new system is not possible. PIN numbers will be reset to the last four digits of your phone number that we have in your library account. The PIN number will be reset to 1234 for customer records that do not have a phone number.  Reset your PIN.

Why did I get an email from Library Elf about my account?

You will need to update your Elf account with your new PIN number. Further assistance for your Library Elf account can be found on the FAQ at www.libraryelf.com.

Why are my items due in 3 weeks instead of 2 weeks?

We will offer a 21-day check out period for most material as opposed to the 14-day check out period.

Can I use my SLPL (St. Louis Public Library) card at SLCL?

Certain access and restrictions apply to the type of card. You can use either a SLCL or SLPL card to check out materials from SLCL. Access to SLCL’s public computers will require a SLCL library card.

Can I use my SLCL library card to request a SLPL book?

Yes! You can use your SLCL card to make a request in the catalog. Upon making the selection you will need to select which SLCL location to pick-up your requested item.

If I request a SLPL book to be sent to SLCL how do I pick-up the item?

You will receive a Hold Notification when the item has arrived at your chosen pick-up branch which will be 1 of our 20 SLCL locations. SLPL materials can be found in designated locations at each SLCL branch. These materials will need to be checked out differently. Contact branch staff for assistance.

Why can’t I request specialty items from SLPL?

While most items are available to SLCL cardholders, there are some specialty items like technology kits that are only available to SLPL cardholders.

Can I return SLCL items to SLPL locations?

Yes! You may return items to any SLCL or SLPL location.

When will new titles be added to the collection?

Due to preparations for the system upgrade we will temporarily stop adding new materials to the collection. We are still ordering and once the upgrade is complete you will start to see new titles on the shelves. Don’t forget you can get new books on our Overdrive and Hoopla apps. Check them out!
