SLCL Listed as one of Library Journal's "Star Libraries"

Press Release

Wednesday, November 20, 2013 - 12:00p.m.

St. Louis County Library has been designated a star library by the Library Journal, a publication that covers the newest developments in libraries and library science. St. Louis County Library (SLCL) is one of only five libraries in Missouri to receive the designation this year.

This is the first year SLCL has been considered a star library. Library Journal announced its list of star libraries on November 1, 2013.

Library Journal (LJ) uses data reported by public libraries to their state library in determining star libraries. This year’s star libraries were ranked by data reported in 2011. To determine star libraries, LJ considers four per capita output statistics: library visits, circulation, program attendance and public Internet computer use. Public libraries are compared to others with similar annual expenditures.

Among the other star libraries in this category are: Cuyahoga County Public Library, Ohio; Cincinnati and Hamilton County, Ohio; Seattle Public Library, Washington; Santa Clara County Library, California; Columbus Metropolitan Library, Ohio; Multnomah County Library, Oregon; King County Library System, Washington; Cleveland Public Library, Ohio; San Francisco Public Library, California; and Denver Public Library, Colorado.
