St. Louis County Library (SLCL), St. Louis Public Library (SLPL) and St. Charles City County Library (SCCCL) have announced a new eMedia reciprocal lending program for cardholders. Starting in June, patrons with a valid library card at any of the three library districts can check out available eBook and audiobook titles from partner library collections using OverDrive or the Libby app.
Reciprocal lending extends to available eBook and audiobook titles only–items checked out or on hold cannot be requested. To browse available eBook and audiobook titles, users can visit SLCL’s OverDrive site at slcl.overdrive.com, there will be a link for Partner Libraries at the top right of the page where patrons can choose SLPL or SCCCL. This will direct the patron to one of the other library’s collections where they can sign in using their SLCL card and PIN.
In Libby, the patron will need to ‘Add a Library.’ This can be done by searching for one of the partner libraries, then signing in with your SLCL card and PIN.
The eMedia lending agreement will give area library users access to over 180,000 eBook titles, and 43,000+ audiobook titles. Previous reciprocal agreements between area library districts have waived non-resident and transactional fees. These agreements were initiated by St. Louis area library districts to remove barriers for library patrons, resolve the confusion from patrons about library access and foster regional cooperation.
