Press Release

Wednesday, May 2, 2012 - 10:00a.m.

Teens in the Ritenour School District will display autobiographical photographs at the Rock Road Branch of St. Louis County Library from May 29 until June 30 as part of a special collaboration with the Public Policy Research Center of the University of Missouri St. Louis.

The Photography Project allows teens to express themselves and their interests via photographs modeled after the pioneering style of Wendy Ewald. Teens from Ritenour High School’s art club focused on the theme “Autobiography of a Teen.” The exhibition includes autobiographical photographs as well as texts and poetry written by the participants.

An opening reception will be held at the Rock Road Branch, 10267 St. Charles Rock Road, St. Ann, MO 63074 on Tuesday, May 29 from 5:30 until 7:00 p.m. During the reception there will be a brief gallery talk by the project director, Mel Watkin, Kristi Ponder, Ritenour High School’s art teacher, and by some of the student photographers.

The exhibit and reception are free and open to the public.

Wendy Ewald’s projects probe questions of identity and cultural differences. She encourages children to use cameras to record themselves, their families, and their communities. More information about the exhibit can be found here:
