The new Thornhill Branch opened on February 13, 2019. Over 1,800 patrons visited the new branch on opening day, checking out 3,000+ items. The Thornhill Branch is the 16th location to be renovated or replaced as part of the Your Library Renewed campaign. Construction is currently underway at two other locations: Mid-County and Meramec Valley. These branches are expected to reopen in 2019.
Some of the most excited visitors on opening day were children and their parents. The new children’s area is full of child-sized amenities—reading nooks, interactive learning stations, child-sized passages, and porthole sized windows with convex glass, comfy furniture for impromptu reading sessions, computer stations and lots of books. This spring, an outdoor activity area will open, featuring seating for story time, art easels, a small play structure and oversized musical instruments.
Patron Stan Brasch was there on opening day. Brasch was the last patron to exit the old Thornhill when it closed in January 2018. A frequent library user since 1975, Brasch spoke glowingly of the new building.
“It’s fantastic,” he said. “What an improvement! This branch is a great asset to the community.”
