St. Louis County Library is partnering with the St. Louis Area Diaper Bank to provide families in need with emergency curbside diapers at two library branches starting Wednesday, September 23. Families can pick up a one-time supply of 50 diapers and receive a referral to a local agency for help with ongoing support during curbside services hours: Monday through Thursday from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.; Friday and Saturday from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. A child must be present to receive a supply of diapers. Appropriately sized diapers will be provided for children ages 3 and under. Supplies and sizes may be limited.
Period supply kits are also available Monday-Saturday during curbside hours from the St. Louis Alliance for Period Supplies.
Along with the supply of diapers, individuals will receive information on the Diaper Time is Talk Time initiative, which encourages parents to bond, sing, smile and communicate with their babies during diaper changing time. Studies show that talking, reading and singing with children from an early age helps with brain development and lays the groundwork for success in school. The Diaper Time is Talk Time initiative complements other early literacy resources available at SLCL.
