The St. Louis County Library Foundation’s Arthur Gale Medical Arts Series Presents Physician Rebecca Thompson

Author of “Held Together: A Shared Memoir of Motherhood, Medicine, and Imperfect Love”

In Conversation with Shellie Fidell, Reproductive Mental Health Clinician

When Dr. Rebecca Thompson endured a string of life-threatening miscarriages, her career as a physician didn’t protect her from feeling isolated. She longed to find a community of women—or even one encouraging story—to reassure her that she wasn’t alone. Thompson reached out to twenty-one friends, patients, and colleagues across the medical field and asked each to share the story of their own personal journey to parenthood. Through these individual stories we are reminded that, though our lives may be unique, we are creating life, raising children, and building families as a community–and we are held together in love.
