The Born to Read program makes sure every baby born in St. Louis County receives a library card. The program provides new parents at participating hospitals and clinics with a bag containing a book, early literacy information, a library card, a Cardinals beanie and a voucher for two Cardinals tickets, as well as other items. Parents also receive an invitation to celebrate their child’s first birthday at the library where they will receive another free book.
Participating hospitals include: DePaul, Mercy Hospital South, Mercy Hospital St. Louis, Missouri Baptist, St. Clare Health Center, St. Luke’s and St. Mary’s.
The Born to Read program started in 2015 with support from the St. Louis County Library Foundation.
