How do I Get a Library Card?
Fill out the online application
or stop by any St Louis County Library location and present photo identification, such as a driver's license, showing your name and current address. If the photo ID does not include the current address, other documentation must be provided. Library cards are free to those who live in or pay property taxes to the SLCL district or the following library districts (SLCL has reciprocal lending agreements with these libraries)
- Brentwood Public Library
- Ferguson Public Library
- Kirkwood Public Library
- Maplewood Public Library
- Richmond Heights Public Library
- Rock Hill Public Library
- St. Charles City-County Library
- St. Louis (City) Public Library
- University City Public Library
- Valley Park Public Library
A card is $50 per family, per year for anyone who lives outside St. Louis County, St. Louis City or St. Charles County. Some restrictions on database access may apply to non-resident cardholders. Additionally, Interlibrary Loan Service is not available to non-resident users.
Please note: starting July 1, residents of Webster Groves will no longer be eligible for a free St. Louis County Library card. Webster Groves residents with a current SLCL card can use their card through December 31, 2015. After that time, Webster Groves residents will be required to purchase a $50 non-resident card to borrow materials from SLCL. Individuals who live in Webster Groves and wish to apply for a new SLCL card after July 1, 2015 will need to purchase a $50 non-resident card to borrow materials. These changes are the result of a vote by the Webster Groves Public Library's Board of Trustees on March 25, 2015 to discontinue its reciprocal lending agreement with the St. Louis County Library effective June 30, 2015.
